Hi guys – Sailor Sophie here, and it’s that time of the week again, beauty post time!
Any girl (or guy!) who loves having painted nails, certainly loves having their nails painted with glitter even more so, am I right?! Whether it’s Dorothy-style red sparkles, chunky rock-chick silver or mermaid blue – the glitterier, the better! However, there’s nothing more annoying than having beautifully glittery nails but dreading having to try and remove it. Scrubbing and scrubbing, using about a hundred cotton pads, more scrubbing, weak nails from all the scrubbing – ugh! That used to put me off wearing glitter on my nails at together but since I’ve discovered this trick that’s so easy to do, I don’t bat an eyelid at it!
What you’ll need…
– Kitchen Foil
– Cotton Wool Pads
Take 3 cotton wool pads and cut 2 of them in half so you have a full one for your thumb nail (the biggest nail) and halves for your other nails.
Then cut 5 squares of kitchen foil approx. 10cm x 10cm.
Starting from your thumb, soak the cotton wool pad in acetone, place it over your nail, then wrap the kitchen foil around it as tightly as you can. In my experience, I’ve found it’s best to put the matte side of the kitchen foil inwards and the shinier side facing outwards.
Continue this process for all your nails. You’ll need to leave them on for between 5 and 10 minutes depending on how glittery your nails are. If it’s just a glitter top coat, 5 minutes should be fine, but if it’s a full-blown glitter explosion, I’d opt for 10 minutes. In this time, what you do is up to you – make a cuppa, watch some TV, read a magazine – whatever, although I can personally recommend pretending to be a robot or Charlie from Lost – the choice is your’s!
After the time is up, remove each little foil hat by pressing down gently on the nail and swiping upwards. Just like that, the vast majority of your glitter will be gone! Remove any remaining pieces with a pair of tweezers and Voila! Glitter free nails – no scrubbing required!
Until next time…
